Bamford Art Group

Bamford Art Group was set up by local Artist and Therapist Jenny Mather as part of the Peak National Park Millennium Initiative.  The Millennium award had two purposes: to create the Touchstones Sculpture Trail and to develop local community Arts and Crafts.

After consultation the Bamford Art Group was inaugurated in the year 2000, meeting fortnightly on Thursday evenings in the Bamford Institute.

The Group has about a dozen members including beginners and professional artists, and welcomes new members and visitors

Some sessions are led, normally by Jenny, but also by other group members from time to time, and cover such subjects as Perspective, Figure Drawing, Charcoal, and Watercolour etc.

Other sessions are D I Y where members work on their own current interests, often sharing ideas and discussing techniques.  Once or twice a year, a social event is organised.

The Millennium award allowed the purchase of a store cupboard and some basic equipment and the Group has held a successful auction of their work in order to raise further funds to purchase materials although regular members have their own equipment.  However the central supply of basics does mean that anyone can come along and try out an evening’s Art even if they have no experience and no equipment of their own.  The group is very supportive and contains members who work with different mediums and techniques.

We had much interest and a large number of people viewing our exhibition in Oct 2002 during the first Bamford Community Arts & Crafts Festival and plan to mount another exhibition on Saturday Oct 1st 2004 in the Institute, at the start of the 2nd BCAC Festival.  The theme for the exhibition this year is The Landscape and Life of Bamford and the Upper Derwent Valley.  Non-members are welcome to contribute work – 2 pieces maximum.  Please check the Festival Programme in September for details of where and when to bring completed work.

Members pay the Annual Institute Subscription of £15 a year and then £1.50 for each session, which goes towards affiliated group room rental and refreshments.

Bamford Art Group – Spring/Summer ‘09

Bamford Arts Group is an informal grouping of people with an interest in art.  We are not Picassos or Monets, but a group of individuals who enjoy sketching, painting, drawing or whatever takes our fancy, in an artistic sense!   Some sessions are themed and structured, others are more DIY, but there are always kindred spirits to give feedback and assistance where required.  Beginners are always very welcome and all materials are provided.  All you need to bring to enjoy a convivial evening is yourself; so why hesitate?

We look forward to welcoming all our regular participants to a new year of activities.  If you are a beginner, or someone with an interest in art, then come along to one of our evenings where you will be most welcome.  The timetable is given below:
