The Methodist
Church in Bamford is a body of people within the local community, drawn
together by the love of God in Christ, to worship, pray and try to follow the teaching of Jesus, by sharing, caring and encouraging
others to know and love God.
Bamford’s
minister, the Rev. Rose Bartleson, resides at Hathersage and has pastoral oversight of seven other churches in her section
of the Peak Circuit.
Services of worship
are held each Sunday at 10.45 am and are led by the minister and local or visiting preachers.
There is a ‘Sunday
Group’ for children and young people.
On Wednesday
mornings at 9.30 am folk (other churches included) meet for prayer.
‘Valley
Praise’, organised by Christians Together in Bamford, is informal worship followed by refreshment and takes place
in the hall monthly on Saturday evenings.
The church takes
a full part in all the activities arranged by Christians Together in Bamford and is happy that closer links are being
forged between the churches.
The chapel, built
in 1811 and subsequently re-built and extended, stands on the main road but is entered from Taggs Knoll.
The hall beneath
the chapel provides good facilities for church activities and for community use.
Story Keepers After School Club
"The Story Keepers
club meets weekly during term time in the Methodist
Church lower hall for primary school children. Our children's worker Hazel Moore, with help from local volunteers, leads the
sessions which include games, videos, craft, singing and bible teaching. About 15 children
meet each week and have a good time learning, playing and doing. The club is sponsored by the Hope Valley Christian
Youth Organisation; for more information go to www.hopevalleyouth.org.uk"
