How to get there (pdf)

The Challenge

Competitors must attempt to climb Bamford Clough, a track that climbs 120m over a distance of 600m.  The climb starts on tarmac, but after about halfway the track is un-surfaced and gets steeper than 1 in 2.

The winner will be the competitor who climbs the highest without stopping. If more than one competitor reaches the top, the winner will be decided on the basis of elapsed time.

The Start

The start will be located in the centre of Bamford, and will be signed from the Event Centre. The route to the start will involve crossing the A6013 at a marshalled crossing point.

Starts will be at 1 minute intervals in blocks of 5 competitors, with a 5 minute gap between each block, allocated on a first-come first-served basis.  Competitors must only descend the track on instruction by the marshals.  Take care coming down!

Method of Marking

Each competitor will be given a sticker with their competitor number on.  This sticker must be given to the marshal at the point where the competitor first puts a foot down.  The marshal will put the sticker on a marker flag at this point.  The marshal’s decision is final.
