History Group
Bamford & District History Group
The History Group was formed several years ago to study and enjoy the history of Bamford and the surrounding areas. We are one of the User Groups of the Institute and members of the Institute area automatically members of the History Group. We hold monthly meetings, usually on the second Friday night in the month depending of the availability of speakers, and arrange visits to places of interest in the summer. Members of the Institute who attend History Group meetings are sent a Newsletter and Meetings Programme.
The History Group has collected an archive of local records including the census records from 1851 to 1901, an index of the Parish Burial Record and Marriage Record. We have copies of the 1842 Tithe Map and list of landowners and have a large collection of copies of local photographs. Geoff Darwent’s collection of cuttings of the entries in the Derbyshire Times from the early 1950s is also deposited with us.
Members Evenings are arranged for theses items to be viewed. Exhibitions of Photographs are held annually.
